Research shows cashback credit card decline

Fewer credit cards are offering cashback services than before, Sainsbury's Finance has suggested in new research.

The provider said that there are only 13 cashback credit cards currently available to UK customers.

In 2005, this total stood at 43 credit cards.

Responding to the research, Sainsbury's Finance highlighted the benefits of cards offering financial incentives other than cashback.

Examples include the provider's own credit card, which offers Nectar points on purchases made at Sainsbury's.

Elsewhere, the BA American Express Credit Card and the bmi American Express Credit Card give customers the chance to build airmiles.

Customers can even donate to their favourite football team through a range of credit cards from MBNA.

Stuart McKeggie, head of Sainsbury's Credit Cards, commented: "The number of credit cards offering cashback has fallen but there are cards out there offering great reward alternatives.

"People need to ask themselves what they need from their card and pick the right one for their wallet."

Figures on cashback credit cards used in the Sainsbury's Finance report were sourced by financial research firm Defaqto.
