Barclaycard offers flood help

Credit card provider Barclaycard has confirmed that it is taking steps to help its customers who have been affected by the flooding in parts of the Lake District.
Credit card provider Barclaycard has confirmed that it is taking steps to help its customers who have been affected by the flooding in parts of the Lake District.

As a result of the flooding, which has affected those in the Cockermouth and Workington areas particularly badly, Barclaycard has confirmed that it is taking steps to remove the impact that late payment fees can have.

Barclaycard's credit card customers who live in these areas and inform the provider that they are affected by the flooding will have any late payment fee immediately refunded.

Due to the flooding, Barclaycard realises that its customers may struggle to access regular post or have difficulty in using online services. For these reasons, the firm is taking action to support its credit card customers.

"We understand that this is a difficult time for those personal and small business customers who have been impacted by the flooding in Cumbria and recognise that the usual channels of communication are not necessarily open as a result," said chief executive of Barclaycard UK Amer Sajed.

Other major credit card providers NatWest and RBS have also vowed to take action to help those affected by the flooding.
